Branding lessons for Businesswomen by Helen Nicholson

Back to News | Next

A personal brand is a promise of what an individual delivers in the work they perform. Branding oneself is often difficult for women because they have a natural tendency to blend in and not stand out in the business world. This often limits the growth of their careers because a well branded leader is visible in their organization and in industry. The only way for businesswomen to achieve this, is to adopt the same branding strategies as well established marketing brands right through from packaging to marketing.

Visibility is a key element in building one’s own personal brand. To build your visibility businesswomen need to:

  • attend networking events,
  • let people know about your achievements in and outside the business environment,
  • write articles for newspapers and journals,
  • attend Industry Association functions and
  • constantly update your knowledge.

Well established marketing brands eg. Coke or Levi are reliable and consistent, yet also reinvent themselves regularly. People need to adapt these same branding strategies to themselves, constantly re-inventing themselves to adjust to the changing business environment.
