How to make business cards work for you

Business cards are a very important, often under utilised business networking tool.

In Japan, people treat business cards with great reverence, and when handing one to a new contact the recipient takes the card in both hands, comments on the design or details of the card and then carefully places it in a pocket.

In South Africa, people's business cards often double up as a shopping list, or end up at the bottom of a desk drawer instead of being a strategic relationship-building tool.

Six months after the initial meeting, the recipient of the business card can't even remember where they met the contact, what the person looked like or whether there were any mutual business synergies.
